West Indian Style Architecture: a few examples

 This is a private residence on Nevis, with a pool overlooking the ocean. It has 3 buildings with living areas and bedroom areas, connected by verandas and patios.

The small scale, railing details, and materials are traditional West-Indian elements.



This is the reception building at Oualie Beach Resort in Nevis.
It has a traditional hip roofs.  The column posts are a traditional fretwork pattern.   The building houses offices and the reception lobby for the hotel.  It is a building that fits in with the traditional architectural heritage of the island.




These are condominiums at Cliffdwellers in Nevis.  Two story two, three and four bedroom buildings with traditional wood shingles and lapboard siding on the second floors and masonry construction on the first floors.  Some units have private pools,or plunge pools within private courtyards. All units have ocean views, and access to the beach.  The complex has a restaurant, office, and shops.    www.cliffdwellers.org



This is the restaurant at Cliffdwellers, inspired by the Villa Nova in Barbados.  The verandah has lattice columns and lattice in arches.  Lattice filters the sunlight and allows ventilation.  The restaurant seating
is around a courtyard with tropical plants and fountains.
